Expert Reviews of DROID by Motorola (Verizon Wireless)
Expert Rating: 4.0
by Joni Blecher -- December 28th 2009
The Motorola DROID has a lot to offer running the Google Android OS 2.0.1 and at the top of that list is a speedy user experience. Nothing seems to lag on this smartphone and it comes with plenty of features to keep you busy. The music player is impressive, the 5-megapixel camera has a flash and takes acceptable pictures, the Marketplace offers tons of good free applications to download, and although there is WiFi included surfing the web using the Verizon Wireless network is far from sluggish. If youre in the market for a Google Android smartphone the Motorola DROID wont disappoint.

I recently purchased Motorola Droid from Letstalk.com. I’m still learning how to use all the features on the phone. So far I am pleased with the phone. This is the first smart phone I have owned, so I don’t have anything to compare it to. I would also like to comment on Letstalk.com. The service was very good. I placed the order over the phone. It was easy and the order was shipped when promised. I ordered the phone on Saturday and it was delivered on Wednesday. The instant rebate was nice. I will recommend Letstalk.com to others.

Yes. There are many apps in the Android Marketplace. One, called Shazam, allows you to record part of a song and it will tell you the name and artist of that song.

I would like to delete some of the factory apps that I will never use such as Amazon mp3. When I move it to the trash can at the bottom of the screen, it still reappears. How do I remove it permanently or at least hide the icon? Thanks for your help!!

You can hide the icon from your home screen by moving it to the trash can, just try it a few more times. However, it's currently impossible to uninstall factory apps without rooting your phone.

You will be able to tether with the Droid with a Mobile Broadband Connect service, however, this will incur additional fees of $30/month for 5GB of data.

You can connect your Droid to your computer using either Bluetooth or the Micro-usb data cable that it comes with. Export Contacts from Outlook and Import to Motorola Droid (Android 2.0). Here's an easy way to do it:
Step 1
-Open Outlook and click on your contacts
-Go to File > Import and Export > Select Export to a file - Next
-Select Comma Separated Values (Windows) - Next
-Select Contacts - Next
-Save the file in a known location - Next
-Click on 'Map Custom Fields' and make sure Default Maps are set
-Click Finish
Step 2
-Log Into your Gmail account
-Click Contacts in the left menu
-Click Import in the top right
-Choose file and select the .csv file you just saved (add them to a group if you want)
-Click Import
-Your contacts will be imported into your Gmail account
Step 3
-On your Droid make sure you have connected your Gmail account
-Go to contacts > Menu > Accounts
-Select your Gmail account > Menu > Sync Now
-Your new contacts will be imported - Any duplicates should be merged.

Hello, i am very interested in this new phone. I currently have a Blackberry Bold And I do love this phone there are just a couple of things that I would like to be improved. The roller ball - I hate it, it always gets stuck, and needs to be cleaned. Does the Droid have a roller ball? I love being able to work from my phone on excel, word, power point - does the droid come with those programs? I have a corp email through java communications that I am unable to access from my BB Bold - can the Droid do that. One last thing I can think of is I can Not access all parts of the internet from my BB Bold and that is some videos that I think are accessed through a Widget? Can the Droid access all videos on the internet?

The Droid does not have a trackball. The Droid allows you to view word and excel documents. You can sync the Droid with Microsoft Exchange, POP3, and IMAP accounts. The Droid does not have flash you may not be able to view all videos, however it supports YouTube. There maybe apps on the Android Market to solve your queries.

You can sync the DROID with outlook, but you must install the proper software and with a USB cable. You should contact Verizon to find out more information. You can set it up to your specific e-mail accounts without hassle, but if you do sync it to Outlook you won't want to wirelessly update your gmail (they will confuse each other).

I'm trying to choose between iPhone and Droid. Since I'm over 65, I can get a voice+data plan from AT&T for $59.99 a month, but the cheapest Verizon plan seems to be $79.99 a month. Is that true?
